Birds of 3/09 Michoacán/Mexico City trip

Birds new to me on the 3/09 Mexico/Michoacán trip

3/20, at the Sierra Chincua mariposa reserve:

  • Red warbler
  • (Western mountain peewee)
  • Mexican chickadee
  • Yellow-eyed junco

3/26 Pátzcuaro:

  • Glossy ibis
  • Say’s phoebe
  • (Mexican bushtits – they don’t appear to count as a different species, but they have black caps, which the ones at home don’t)

3/27 Ihuátzio:

  • vermillion flycatcher
  • ash-throated flycatcher

3/28 Patzcuaro:

  • Crescent-throated warbler

& piney woods above Opopeo:

  • Northern beardless tyrannulet
  • Slate-throated whitestart

3/28 in the Parque Morelos 45 minutes outside Morelia:

  • tufted flycatcher
  • acorn woodpecker
  • summer tanager
  • painted whitestart (aka painted redstart)

3/29 in the pass on the road between Zitácuaro and Toluca (Michoacán/Mexico border)

  • summer tanager
  • hermit thrush
  • magnificent hummingbird
  • plumbeous vireo

3/30 road between Tenango and Tenancingo

  • rufous-capped brushfinch
  • (possible golden-browed warbler, too – was sure I saw the eye stripe, but only for half a second)

3/30 on the slopes of the Volcán de Ajusco

3/31  Mexico City
